First triathlon:

Why did you get into triathlon?

I went through a rough 6-8 mth period of personal loss, culminating with the death of my father and then knee surgery.  I was looking for a goal to push me with my knee rehab, and also for a positive activity to focus on while dealing with my grief.  One of my best friends was really into tri and he suggested that I do one, too.  I was traveling 100% of the work week at the time so I wouldn't call what I was doing "training", but he made sure I at least got some structured work outs in.  He would pick me up to go to the pool, encouraged me to swim my first laps, taught me how to fix and maintain my bike, and introduced me to routes to ride.  A couple of years later, we even did our first Half Ironman together! I will be forever grateful to him for being there for me in my time of need, and for encouraging me to embrace this sport.

Goal for 2017:

Complete my first Ironman (but still have fun and balance in my life)!

Favorite Quote:

Fear is your opponent.  No one is better or faster than you, only less afraid.

Biggest Inspiration:

My parents, but not because of their relationship with each other.  I just can't pick between the two because I admire them in different ways.  My dad for his friendly personality, his incredible work ethic and drive to provide for his family, and for his service to our country (even though it cost him a lot and damaged him emotionally and mentally for his entire life).  My mom for her sense of humor, quick wit, kindness, love, and generosity.  She would do almost anything for a friend or family member.  Both of them inspire me to work hard, be a good person, and to live life to the fullest.

Strange race habits or rituals?

Nope - just keep it light and loose and try not to get too serious or stressed!

Favorite food:

Pizza!!! Burger!! Ice Cream!!! (basically anything healthy) ;-).

Coffee or Tea:

Would you rather be a dog named killer or a cat named fluffy?

dog named Killer.

If you could spend one day with anyone (dead or living) who would it be?

I would definitely spend it with my dad.  We would probably go camping and fishing somewhere and just talk about life.  I miss having him around to give me advice.

What does #BeAVixxen mean to you?

#BeAVixxen means to put your best effort forward, even if the day is not going your way, and to strive to be the very best at what you do.  But, also to be humble, encouraging, and inspirational to those around you!  Being competitive or driven doesn't mean you have to be a jerk!

One thing that most people don't know about you?

I turned down job offers from both the FBI and the CIA.
